Other Services at the CASSEL Centre
We listen to members of the local community and where we have the capability we offer appropriate services. These are delivered within an equal opportunities framework, and with regard to the diverse needs of a multi-cultural population. Services currently provided include:
•
The Saturday SchoolThis School aims to provide a safe, non-threatening environment where younger children can spend Saturdays making new friends, learning, playing and sharing experiences and thoughts in relation to their culture and ancestry. Last year a total of 16 students attended; 7 girls, and 9 boys, eight of whom were under 10 years of age. Many topics were discussed including Black History Month, bullying, celebrities, depression, guns and disability. The aim of such discussions is to raise awareness and share knowledge, enabling the children to become more informed as well as accessing support. The School produces a newsletter that publishes students’ achievements. It has received excellent feedback from both students and parents, for example ‘it’s a safe and happy place’, ‘it feels like a real family’ and ‘the dedication of the teachers is unbelievable’.
