Social Work training placements

Social workers and counsellors based at the CASSEL Centre provide a range of services which complement those available from other agencies. Some have been developed specially to fill gaps in local provision. Services include:
  • Assessments
  • Advocacy and liaison
  • Finding appropriate resources
  • Applying for grants
  • Practical help and advice
  • Group workshops
  • Signposting and referrals
We are a major training centre for social work students who find our busy, voluntary sector agency a place where they can put into practice a wide range of their skills and learning. Placements are usually for 5 - 6 months duration. As well as actively participating in core day to day agency activities, each student is supervised and supported to provide therapeutic social work, supportive or advocacy services to 4-6 clients each. We accept around 12 students each year with around 4 working with us at any one time.

Our client base is diverse and includes among others vulnerable older people, children with disabilities, teenagers with mental health problems, adults with learning disabilities, refugees and asylum seekers and people who are socially excluded.

We have taken students on placement mainly from Goldsmiths College, Greenwich University and Kent University and are also happy to discuss placement opportunities with other colleges. If you are looking for a placement with CASSEL Centre, in the first instance you should discuss this with your college tutor.
