Honorary counsellors

Our volunteer or Honorary Counsellors are qualified counsellors working with a range of therapeutic models. We are interested to receive applications from qualified counsellors to provide voluntary daytime and/or evening services to our clients. This increases our capacity to provide services to Lewisham residents, while providing the therapist with:-

  • a well-established set of agency systems, processes and practices within which to work safely;
  • a team working environment with support from the staff team and other experienced therapists;
  • supervised work with CASSEL clients, building experience and client hours, perhaps towards  accreditation or CASSEL Associate status;
  • client referrals passed to CASSEL by local professional agencies;
  • a mix of non fee-paying and fee-paying clients;
  • use of CASSEL shared workspaces, resources and counselling rooms;
  • optional access to CASSEL's CPD sessions on Thursdays from 2pm – 3pm;
  • we will meet the cost of CRB disclosure for Honorary Counsellors.

Supervision
Honorary Counsellors at our agency are expected to attend weekly supervision sessions with a CASSEL Centre supervisor – with a current contribution level of £30 per session - which we will set off against fees paid by clients. ie if your clients collectively contribute over £30 per week, then your supervision is effectively covered.

Future opportunities
In time and when an Honorary Counsellor meets all the criteria, there is the possibility of applying to be a CASSEL  Associate Counsellor.

Applying for a Honorary Counsellor position
First, make sure you can meet all of the requirements stated above.
Then please email your current cv with a covering letter for the attention of the Chief Executive.

The recruitment process is competitive, so you need to provide full information- we are interested in  your transferable knowledge and skills, so include details you consider relevant about your previous working and student life.
New applications can be submitted at any time and are reviewed monthly by our supervisors group. After this, we will contact you to provide feedback and to let you know if we would like to invite you to take the process to a formal application and interview.
